Our Story

Traditionally, articles you read online are sponsored or ordered by a company, and usually they have been through conference rooms full of editors and journalists trying to get their slice. Not here. We’re just a couple of guys with a love of nature, adventure, and conservation. The journalistic dishonesty used to be confined to politics, but over the years it has bled into recreation, as well. After becoming increasingly dissatisfied with trudging through the hidden agendas, misinformation, and blatant fabricated lies, we decided to create our own space for outdoorsy types. Absolutely nothing on this website is paid, sponsored, or ordered by an external entity. Gasoline and Gravel exists simply as a passion project to bring you stories without being weighed down by a clickbait quota, corporate agenda, or business deadline. Camping, hiking, road tripping, overlanding, fly fishing, off-roading; welcome to our unfiltered experiences in this lovely little planet we explore.

Welcome to Gasoline and Gravel

I’m Matt

I’m a Colorado-based adventure junkie and the founder of the website. Getting out in nature has always just been a part of my being, be it lengthy camping trip or quick morning hike before work. Photography has been a pivotal part of my creativity, and I love observing and capturing what this world has to show us. I have a passion for the automotive as well, and I write our “Wheels” column. Cars and trucks allow us to span vast distances, crossing between ecosystems in mere hours. There are some fantastic drives in this country; carving up mountain roads or expansive desert highways. I plan to take you along as much of it as I can.

I’m Jacob

I'm currently hailing from Nebraska, where I discovered I had a deep passion for fly fishing. I began discovering hidden streams and tightly sealed secret waters that held wild trout. Places where I discovered a deeper love of the outdoors, and the wildlife that lives within it. Now, I film and photograph my adventures, trying to show the world how special fly fishing, and by extension, the wild is. But more importantly, how much both need to be preserved and protected. I'll be writing about my adventures, primarily in regard to fishing, as well as some philosophies I've since adopted from my time in the woods and on the water.
